An Octopus’ Garden – of Diamond Starfish

Vintage Steuben Octopus and Diamond Starfish Jewelry
“I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden in the shade
He’d let us in, knows where we’ve been
In his octopus’ garden in the shade.

I’d ask my friends to come and see
An octopus’ garden with me
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden in the shade.
We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus’ garden near a cave.
We would sing and dance around
because we know we can’t be found
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden in the shade
We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy

Knowing they’re happy and they’re safe
(Happy and they’re safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden with you.”

Lyrics to The Beatles’ “Octopus’ Garden”

Celebrate Earth Day – Friday April 22nd

We are pleased to celebrate Earth Day by highlighting two of our giftware collections made from sustainable and recycled materials.  These beautiful gifts include Grant Dawson Collection’s impeccably crafted pewter depictions of endangered species made from sustainable materials and encased in gold or silver; and Mariposa serveware designed in Cape Ann, Massachusetts, then made by artisans in Mexico from 100% recycled aluminum.

 Salt & Pepper Shakers
Quality, craftsmanship, and concern for the environment are the inspiration behind every design created by Grant Dawson Collections (GDC). Founded by Sheri Gorsen and Cindy Testa and based in McLean, Virginia, GDC’s earth- friendly Endangered Species Collection is handmade in the United States and uses a combination of certified sustainable North American hardwoods, recycled glass, and lead free pewter. Each piece is finished in 24k gold or sterling silver. Combining functional and artistic design, with skillful craftsmanship, quality materials and eco friendly packaging, they create beautiful pieces that provide relevancy to today’s evolving consumer environment. Unlike mass produced items, one can see and feel the quality in the materials and finish that can only be achieved through hands on craftsmanship.  GDC’s tabletop and desktop accessories collection continues to grow, from the ever popular Kirkland Warbler salt and pepper set and elegant mangrove serving set, to the carniverous Pitcher Plant Candleholders and Seahorse Magnifying Glass and Letter Opener.

Mariposa Napkin Box and Pearled Weight

Mariposa began in 1980 as a small family business located in Cape Ann, Massachusetts – thirty miles north of Boston – that transformed soft-drink bottles down in Mexico into modern glassware. They have since become a leader in handmade tableware using recycled products, embracing the arts of ceramics, aluminum, cutlery, and glass in myriad forms and textures from around the world. Mariposa’s many unique collections are a result of their own innovative designers collaborating with superior artisans worldwide to bring the best of foreign cultures back home — Italian ceramics; European glassware; French cutlery; Mexican glass and aluminum serveware.

Mariposa’s Brillant sandcast aluminum serveware is designed in Massachusetts and made by artisans in Mexico. It is 100% recycled. It celebrates the voluptuous forms and ever-new textures of aluminum — a flexible array of serveware with an enormous range of themes and moods.
