Vintage and Antique Jewelry Trunk Show at Shreve Nantucket

Shreve, Crump & Low welcomes New York City estate jeweler, Neil Marrs, for a trunk show August 6-8 at our Nantucket store. The show will feature a fine selection of stylish, signed vintage jewels.

Expect bold color combinations and clean lines of collectible jewels by pivotal 20th century designers such as Verdura, David Webb, Seaman Schepps and Schlumberger as well as dramatic examples of 60s and 70s jewels by Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari and Tiffany & Co.

Meet The Artist, Letizia Reilly, At Our Nantucket Store

Letizia Reilly, a Nantucket resident and gifted basket weaver, will be on hand Saturday, July 17th and Sunday, July 18th demonstrating the art of basket making as well as selling her popular baskets.

The Nantucket Lightship baskets are woven over a mold using cane. The bases are made from cherry, oak or specialty woods. The baskets are accented with ivory. The handles are usually coordinated with the base and finely finished.

The Mattapoisett is a free form basket, which does not require a mold. The size and shape is dictated by the design of the artist. The Mattapoisett is an intricately worked pine needle and raffia basket requiring hundreds of hours to complete. It is accented with brilliant decoratio

ns of ivory carvings and scrimshaw.

The collector is guaranteed an original, as no two are alike. Come by our Nantucket store from 4 pm to 7 pm on Saturday and from 3 pm to 6 pm on Sunday to be the first to get your own original Letizia Reilly basket.

Meet The Artist: Shreve Nantucket

Meet Artist Kim Thayer at Shreve, Crump & Low
Saturday and Sunday, July 10th and 11th from Noon to 5 PM

Katharine K. Thayer, or Kim, whose primary residence is in Ipswich, Massachusetts, is an artist-in-residence on Nantucket this summer. “Two of my favorite places to paint are Polpis overlooking the harbor, and Surfside where the rolling dunes beckon me down to the beach”, said Kim. She continued, “The color of light on this island is rare and exquisite to paint.”

Perhaps you have seen Kim painting at one of your favorite places. When outdoors she is part of the land, light and water, and expresses that connection through paint and canvas. Despite adverse temperatures, carrying heavy supplies and standing for hours amidst bugs and wind, she believes it is worth the extra effort to paint when immersed in nature. Ms. Thayer’s goal in every painting is to move viewers to a feeling of a place and make them want to be right there.

Over a dozen paintings of Nantucket's readily visible marine life and beaches will be on display at Shreve, Crump & Low's Nantucket store starting this weekend. This is in addition to Kim's well received landscapes and seascapes of the east coast. Come in, meet Kim and see her latest work of Nantucket Island.
